Our Christmas Porch (with our Charming Whale Wreath, Festive Banner and Stars!)

Today I thought I would show you how our Christmas porch is coming along. With all the rain here lately it’s been pretty wet and dreary out, but I thought I would take a few progress pics anyway.

Our house has one front porch, but it almost feels like two since one side is in front entry and the other is by the doors in our living room. I’ll show you both sides in this post!

Last year, my cute metal whale that I add on our wreath went missing, so sadly he wasn’t on my door during the previous Christmas season. I missed him — so many people asked where he was and missed him, too!

But this year I’m happy to report he is back where he belongs, right on my front door, smiling and greeting everyone who comes to our home!

We also hung a Christmas banner, lights, and our stars so it feels festive! I’ve decided that banners for over our front door are a fun seasonal tradition. They are charming, simple to hang, really easy to store (big plus in a smaller home!) and add a sense of celebration for each season. I forgot last month to take a photo of our Give Thanks Thanksgiving banner, and you’ve seen our Trick or Treat one! We will probably get one for spring and summer, too. We don’t have to keep banners up all year, but we can bring them out for a new season, holiday or family celebration.

I recently got a fresh new doormat that I love so much, it is weatherproof and feels perfect for my porch, too. They have a variety of styles, made by a small family business in Maine. You can get them here on Amazon!

Finnegan is always reaching out to shake with us!

Hello from Lily, too. 🙂

Right after I hung the wreath and went inside I had an idea, what If I tucked the ribbon behind the whale? Now he’s even more the star of the porch!

I like the bow both ways (you’ll see both variations throughout this post ), but I think I might keep it tucked in behind him.

Sometimes it takes a few tries or epiphanies to get something the way you want it. That’s another reason I am a fan of decorating slowly, you can continue to adjust and tweak until it feels just right.

Hanging Lit Stars

Doormat – handmade in Maine from authentic lobster trap rope. Featured on The Today Show, HGTV Magazine, and CBS for their quality and craftsmanship. Each one is weatherproof, colorfast, and designed to last season after season. Mine is the 2 x 3 in the Solid Sand color.

Christmas Joy to the World banner

The bell is vintage but this one looks similar or there are vintage brass ones here (may be out of stock but there are lots of others here on Etsy!).

This year I added the same plaid ribbon we used inside to the wreath.

I’ve had the wreath forever so I don’t have the exact source, but any green wreath would work beautifully!

Porch Sources (gingham scalloped pillows, furniture and more)

Garland – Costco

Inside the window you can see:

Heirloom-quality handmade in Germany nautical Nutcrackers (this one, and this one)
