Despite what social media will have you believe, fall is not always pumpkin spice and plaid bliss for all. The season can actually be overwhelming to some for a variety of reasons. I personally dread it a little every year since I’m a summer forever kinda gal. It took me a minute to figure out why: I love the slower days and later nights and our house that is the revolving door since we own a pool with three teens. I feel a sentimental passing of time, with my two boys’ birthdays in July + August + our anniversary, and then the beginning of the new school year. I also know winter is coming, and it feels like we morph into Game of Thrones characters, hunkering down for less sunlight to battle our inner demons. {Yes, I do have a penchant for the dramatic; why do you ask?} I’m trying to embrace it, and right now, I vacillate between purging everything {the entire upstairs + our closets are done – headed to the basement as we speak…} and adding softer touches. All that to say, I always try to be mindful that the seasons aren’t all things to all people. And I find that making things a little brighter around here, along with some self-care, definitely helps. Here are a few colorful touches to try now around your home if you’re in the mood to cozy it up and want to embrace it a little more like me: 3 easy, colorful touches for fall to try now {for the reluctant seasonal decorator}.

1. 3 Easy Colorful Touches For Fall to Try Now: Layer Up That Table
Yep, this is a post about the simple things that anyone can do to cozy it up. I’m not dropping anything revolutionary because sometimes it helps to know the simple elements make a big difference and still exist. You never know what you’ll find here between full-on renovations where we tear down entire houses – {stay tuned} or I’m chatting about dish placements. Basically, you don’t have to sprinkle pumpkins into every single room like a madperson or go full Cracker Barrel with a couple of ill-fitting scarecrows on your front porch. But your table is a great place to dress it up a little, to make things feel fresh. And it can be with the things that you already have! Layer plates, a cloth napkin, colorful glasses, and simple pumpkins from your local craft store for the win.

Here’s one that I tackled a few years ago in our pool room with the same concept. The remnants of our summer flowers, combined with some simple grocery store finds to add a little color.

You can see more of this simple setup here.

It had been a while since we gave a full seasonal tour of our home. Check it out here.

2. 3 Easy Colorful Touches For Fall to Try Now: Add Splashes of Fresh Color with Pillow and Rug Combos
It’s the most effortless update to bring fresh color to your home! I was living with this rug, which wasn’t the most colorful, and I realized that I needed some more depth in this space. Updating the rug and then adding some deeper fall colors helped accentuate everything I needed.

Pillow switcharoos are the perfect way to change the seasons without disturbing much. The overall effect is oh-so fun! The key to not taking up too much space in your home? Pillow covers. Once you have a nice base of fillers, they’re easy to switch out seasonally for an entirely fresh look. Folded neatly and stashed in your linen closet, you’re not going to be shamed for being a pillow hoarder. {Me, side eyeing my family.}

Fabulously colorful rug from here. Pillow covers here + here. The red stripes will transition perfectly into Christmas, too.
This is my favorite view when it comes to all the fun colors. The multicolor houndstooth pillow I sewed from this fun fabric a long time ago, never gets old.

Yes, our dogs are yard / rug potatoes.
3. 3 Easy Colorful Touches For Fall to Try Now: Pampas Grass + Greenery
When our back table isn’t dressed up for fall, we love this easy go-to for the cooler seasons: Pampas grass. It’s the easiest way to add a touch of cooler weather to those empty vases! This was originally from World Market and is no longer available. Check out some more colorful options here to recreate your own—I especially love this one.

We even added a little pampas grass bouquet to our Cabana.

Check out this wreath we recently made for all things festive Halloween. I think you could easily do an all-out fall version!

These are the simple things I do to update for fall. Maybe a fluffy throw here and there, and you can never go wrong with the sparkle of mirrorballs. What are some simple ways you celebrate the season and cozy up your spaces? We’d love to hear. Have an inspired day!
