Remember this project? It’s been a whole thing. Just ask the amazing owners of this magical eye candy project. So much potential. So much waiting. {Thanks, Williamson county septic. You’ve been a real joy. Permits are great. This is like the extreme version of that, though.} When we last left you, we were in the initial stages of demo. And now I must say, we’ve been in the throes of it.

Here’s a quick refresher in case you aren’t familiar or don’t remember. You can definitely check out all the design details here. As with all projects, we’ve pivoted a little here and there for various reasons, but the initial sentiment is still true: It’s going to be one amazing house. They’ve waited long enough.

So here’s a view of their living room before we got started…

And a view from the other direction once they did get started. That’s a lot of insulation. You can see all the befores in the original post above.

And we last left you with this.

While the inside was going on, we started with the foundation.

Neighbors kept stopping by, clearly confused, wondering if “the storms got it.” Valid, but it did make us laugh a little because it didn’t get that bad here. {Thank goodness.} Also, everyone’s been wondering if our clients are going ‘up’ with their design. They’re not tearing down their house to build a monstrosity where it wouldn’t fit. They’re tastefully going out, instead. This is where the trenches were dug for the new footers to be poured.

And this is the foundation for their new garage. I have high hopes for something like this in our own future, so I’ll have a nice healthy dose of garage envy when it’s up. This will be the first thing to be built, so that the sweet homeowners might get a little reprieve from the weather, {they’re living in this adorable airstream} and that way they might also have some storage for all their upcoming building materials.

Oh, and then we took it to this. {Brace yourselves if you’re easily offended, I have the reasons below.}

While we had plans to work with the existing footprint, {we did work with the actual footprint, just not the walls?} sometimes old houses have other plans. Walls were totally removed because of termites, water damage, rot and age. Which allowed us to go from 8′ walls to 9′ walls. This will be so stunning. Also, allowing us to bump up some window header heights for a better appearance on their elevation.

But wait for it…

And once those walls came down… the entire flooring system was removed due to the fact that we needed to replace 40% of it, and it made more sense to go back completely new. The existing block wall also showed wear and tear because of age, so we replaced some blocks, rebuilt the piers, and core-filled everything.
If you’re going to do something, do it right.

We’re super excited for our sweet clients who have waited so long. We honestly can’t think of anyone more deserving of completing their project. But it will be a while. We’ve been passing inspections and doing all the things in this process, which keeps us really busy but also feels like slow motion. Especially when working on other projects in tandem, along with other things we do here. I guess this is the ultimate testament to the fact that true patience pays. Our sweet clients are two years in, and there is no house to show for it… But it has good beginnings, and it will be a stunner in the end.
We’ve had meetings with our amazing architect friend and a few redesigns here and there when it comes to product and availability after all this time. We’ll keep you posted as we’re able to share. She’s a beaut, Clark.

Next up: Framing! AKA the really exciting part. So stay tuned!
