As soon as fall goes up around our house, we really enjoy breaking out a little Halloween, too. And we’re not even sorry about it. Just like our Fall Tour, this is what happens when a summer-loving house decorates for Halloween… or any other holiday, for that matter. Let there always be lots of colors and sparkles. {Cue the simple things that bring us joy!}

What I love the most about our seasonal decor is that most of it always consists of some version of handmade, thrifted/upcycled finds with some easy Amazon scores, as well.

I was sitting in the back room the other day, when inspiration struck. I decided it was time for a change, as the dogs have definitely mutilated our striped rug in the last few years, and it needed a break. This is why we can’t have nice things, but they are pretty well-behaved. I switched it out with an old Loloi that we had stored, which once lived in our great room. We were ready to cozy up the space with this jewel-toned blue for fall, and it really just hits the spot with a fun contrast!

Yes, I did fill the fireplace with mirrorballs and pumpkins. No worries, the gas is off. Sometimes, I feel like that hole needs a little sparkle {TWSS}. And it may stay there for the holidays, too.

For the coffee table, I threw together some spooky books – I’ve always grabbed them from the flea market for styling whenever needed, though I have no idea how I ended up with “The Eyes of Death” which sounds pretty ominous. I just googled it, and apparently it’s a well-known one – now I kind of want to read it. Circa the 1930’s, this one makes for a great addition in the spooky month.

Anyway, here are a few things that I’ve made over the last year, that really came together for this little mantel. ‘Tis the season for crafting, and if anyone is feeling like taking on something therapeutic, I highly recommend some of these fun projects!
• Make a custom mirrorball mirror
• These diy ghost candlestick holders are the perfect afternoon project.
• These colorful metallic pumpkins are some easy faves I cooked up a few weeks ago- check them out here.
• This Halloween Wreath – where we have the full how-to.

And here are a few more elements I threw in for funsies if this is helpful: {Some of these may contain affiliate links!}
• This skull we’ve had forever, that we tend to bring out + decorate every Halloween.
• This year, the mirrorballs are a bit disconcerting.
• These bleeding candles
• And these skull decanters {similar} that I used as vases to show off my last summer flowers – such a fun colorful combo!

Oh, and this little ghost vase I found last year... perfect for my garden remnants!

My daughter and I purchased these little chonky candles to paint. We just decided which colors we wanted to do, and broke some crayons to heat at 350 in foil-covered muffin tins. Then we had a ball painting away! The candles actually come in a set of six. Spider candles not seen here because painting with melted crayons is actually kind of tricky, and it felt like a five-year-old’s craft project/total fail. Wheee. We can’t win them all. But we do like our little ghosts and pumpkins!

Here’s to bringing a little simple fun this season. As always, let us know if you make this! We’d love to hear.
The dogs approve. Have an inspired {spooky!} season!
