easy small porch makeover – The Handmade Home

It’s definitely that time of year. The other morning, we spent a little time at the local store, gathering gardening supplies for the yard and fresh items for spring. I shared our favorite gardening finds last week + some easy ideas for a spring porch before that. The list of outdoor projects is growing for when I have time ::laughs in full-time job:: from painting to refreshing and so much more. But in the meantime, our side porch really needed a fresh take. It was kind of sad, and I was happy to give it a newer look. Today I’m sharing an easy, small porch makeover!

Here’s the before. It was aged out, as nothing ever lasts with all things outdoors. Womp Womp.

And here’s what we came up with for the after. Yes, photographing it when the sun had moved to the other side of the house definitely helped. But it was easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Here’s the ultimate before – AKA what our house looked like before our renovation. It’s come so far!

You may have seen this post that we shared recently, with more easy ideas! And we have an entire board with all the sources right here. We’ve rounded it all up into one spot. I’m sharing the info here today to make it oh so easy! {Some of these contain affiliate links. Thanks so much for understanding!}

For our side entrance, we needed a little color. It all started out with this little wreath which I felt like really gave it a spring look!

I’ve yet to switch from pansies to something else for our window boxes; they’re just making a comeback, so I don’t have the heart to dig them up just yet. I may be adding to them from the front area, to make way for more spring gardening. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?

These little planters are something I found a few years ago at the flea market, and I love their fun look. But because I don’t place fresh flowers here as they’re in constant shade, I opted for an easier option this year. A collection of these flowers, repeated from the front porch to tie everything together, is just what they needed. They come in multiple shades, and I used a combination of foam + moss to secure + provide a realistic look.

We’re still loving these fun lanterns + outdoor light from Kichler! They have the best products, so be sure to look them up!

They’re so colorful and bright!

For the doormats, we decided to layer up again. It’s basically a blue version of this black stripe, but I do love this material since it holds up so well. I added the floral mat on top of the stripe, {available in multiple colors, too!} and it makes for such a happy little entryway.

Here’s some more details on that wreath again.

I have plenty of maintenance to keep up with over the summer months, so this will help out a little to add consistent color {read, while I scramble to keep things alive.}

And of course, that haint blue on the ceiling, always wins. We also gave the door a fresh coat of paint in SW Aviatrix to freshen everything up. It’s crazy how that will make everything pop. You may have spied the bird’s nest in the upper left corner of these pics. We were losing a battle this year, and when they work so hard, we don’t have to heart to tear anything down. So fresh batch of baby birds it is! Just in time to poop on my new side porch. HA.

I love cheating a little where I can. When we’re finished planting everything, you won’t be able to tell the real from the fake. What are some simpler things you’re doing to your porch to keep your sanity this year? We’d love to hear. Be sure to check out our entire shopping list here. Happy creating!
