twelve spaces transformed by wallpaper + a few best tips

Jen wrote in and asked, “I would love to do some wallpaper in my home but my partner isn’t thrilled about it. I finally got him to acquiesce, but I thought I’d check in to see if you have any tips or inspiration first. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!”

Wallpaper. Love it or hate it, it’s here to stay. Today we thought we’d share some of our very favorite spaces, {both ours and clients} transformed by wallpaper. So here are 12 spaces transformed by wallpaper + a few best tips.

1. The blue house tour is a perfect example of big impacts in smaller spaces. Be sure to check out this entire redo for multiple ideas!

2. This happy kitchen renovation shows that you can go soft + stubtle. Wallpaper doesn’t have to be over the top. Very demure very mindful…

3. And speaking of over the top… Our own primary bath reveal is a prime example of a bold balance with accent walls… which will always work when done correctly. {This one was a fresh build, so there isn’t a “proper” before.}

4. This garage to AirBNB was so transformational, we love what this wallpaper did for their space.

5. Our laundry space – check out the tour here. {Again, fresh space.}

6. This herringbone bath transformation gave us a sweet peek and also blended cohesively with the entire space.

7. The pool room which brought so much colorful fun to the space.

8. This eclectic glam teens room was a fun transformation, making that wallpaper the main focal point and even serving as a headboard.
9. And speaking of bedrooms, we loved the idea of creating a sweet sanctuary for these amazing clients.

10. Our basement reveal definitely shares a wall with two contrasting papers, that still work. Check out our office update here + the view from this wall in our basement, here.

11. This colorful kitchen makeover is a testament to accentuating those dining areas.

12. And an oldie but goodie… this simple dining room makeover shows that a small addition can go a long way.

We hope these before + afters gave you a few great ideas! So after seeing multiple installations in our own home and our clients’ homes, here are a few of our best tips we’d love to share.

  1. Cover the outlets. No really. If you hire someone, they should know to go the extra mile. We’ve worked with multiple pros at this point, and it may seem silly… but it’s all in those details.
  2. Hire a pro. Which brings us to this point. I’ll never paint my own cabinets again, and I will never ever wallpaper my own walls. You think they can’t tell… but they can tell. Trust. Unless you’ve done multiple walls and you’re an expert… why suffer?
  3. And on hiring: Ask to see their work. Also, don’t hire some hobbyist. Not some person who does it on the side. Hire the expert. Don’t be cheap. Do it.
  4. Stay away from self-adhesive. This is a word of wisdom from my own trusted source. He swears that the self-adhesive stuff just doesn’t work as well as the real stuff. I get it… sometimes you fall in love with the self-adhesive. Sometimes you make it work. But if you can, avoid the fake stuff.
  5. Pick something you truly love, and you won’t tire of it. A lot of people shy away out of fear, and its just wallpaper. I personally have a lot of it professionally installed throughout my own home. I chose what I love and I have zero regrets.

Have you taken on wallpaper in your own home? We’d love to hear some of your favorite finds + tips. Have an inspired day!
