Brick is always a beautiful material option when it comes to projects for our own home and clients. It’s timeless and low maintenance. There are so many endless applications in floors and walls, fireplaces, outdoor use, and so much more… we have nothing but love for where we’ve chosen to use it in our home and in our clients’ homes. From beautiful accents to trustworthy structural choices, brick ultimately adds value in timeless and traditional ways. 1. 5 Clever Projects with Bricks: A fresh fireplace in an old home.
Redoing this fireplace was a great way to add character to our main living space. We added function and beauty to the area as well. Check out how we built it here + how to mortar wash a fireplace here!

2. 5 Clever Projects with Bricks: Outdoor Dining Area.
We were so busy the first few years on the inside of our home that we were much overdue for something fresh on the outside. We knew that we wanted to expand our pool patio area a few years ago, so we got to work laying it all ourselves. It created space for an instant patio expansion, and we love the timeless feel and look of mortar-washed brick underfoot. This project was in the middle of the pandemic in 2020, and it honestly kept us sane to be able to create something on our own. It also served as a catalyst for a huge yard makeover, including expanding a fence on our acre yard, and a cabana, which is all perfect for entertaining. Brick completely transformed our yard, and we love hosting here in the warmer months.

Sometimes, a good outdoor makeover comes with the proper placement of bricks! This was our previous state, and we desperately needed some love in the cleanup and update department! {See the inside, here!} + more of our house history, here.

When we were finished with the back, we realized our house had a mullet: business in the front, party in the back. It was time to transform this 1970-something into something more. See how to build a trellis here + how to lay a brick pathway, here.

Build a patio + fire pit… and when you’re not using it, give it a tabletop. This one is old school: We loved this one for years and need one now!

Pssst: but back to that mortar wash thing. It’s amazing what a simple mortar wash can do to brick if you’re not loving a more dated look. Changing over this wall in our clients’ happy kitchen remodel was a game-changer for their space. Be sure to check out the entire tour. It was quite the transformation.
